Therapy for Relationship Patterns in Tennessee
Online therapy for adults who keep finding themselves in familiar relationship dynamics and want to understand what keeps repeating, not just survive the next version of it.
When insight has not yet created change
You may recognize the pattern clearly and still feel pulled into it: choosing unavailable partners, over-functioning, pursuing reassurance, shutting down, avoiding conflict, losing yourself in a relationship, or feeling difficult to truly know.
These patterns often developed for understandable reasons. They may have helped you preserve connection, avoid rejection, manage uncertainty, or stay safe in earlier relationships. Therapy helps make the pattern visible as it happens so that new choices become possible.
Patterns we may explore
Pursuing and withdrawing during conflict
Fear of abandonment or difficulty depending on others
People-pleasing, over-functioning, or weak boundaries
Emotional avoidance, shutdown, or discomfort with intimacy
Repeated attraction to unavailable or unsafe partners
Shame, self-criticism, and difficulty expressing needs
A relational approach to therapy
Relationship patterns cannot be understood only as ideas. They often appear in the therapy relationship too: in expectations, misunderstandings, distance, trust, and repair. We can use those moments thoughtfully, without judgment, to understand what happens between you and other people.
My approach draws from modern relational psychodynamic therapy, attachment theory, family systems, ACT, and parts-oriented work. The aim is not to blame your past or your relationships. It is to develop more freedom, honesty, and steadiness in the present.
Individual therapy and couples therapy
Some clients work on these patterns individually. Others come as a couple because the cycle belongs to the relationship. We can discuss which format is most appropriate for your goals and circumstances.
